FINDING ZEN IN THE CHAOS OF EVERYDAY LIFE
We’re going through some HARD times energetically.
We all may feel triggered from time to time. Emotionally Dysregulated, which means having a poor ability to manage emotional responses or to keep them within an acceptable range of typical emotional reactions. Oftentimes this surfaces as sadness, anger, irritability, and frustration.
I don’t always remember the tools when this happens to me. All I know is that when I am feeling dysregulated it does not feel good. This shows up for me as anxiety.
I also know that I have to find my way out of my head and back to my heart. Easier said than done during conflict, when triggered, or while in the midst of a stressful situation.
I find myself getting lost and forgetting the path back to calm, cool, collected. This is the state that we should all aim to be at. When the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system is “ON”. Our mind and bodies are able to function at their best. This allows the body to do all the basic things that it needs to do like digest food, send oxygen to the brain, and keep our heart rate at healthy levels (all my high blood pressure peeps you really want to be here!).
I teach and stress how important these tools are but I am human and get bumped off of my zen state from time to time.
So recently when I was scrolling through all the madness in the world I stopped and had a heart to heart with my anxiety and decided I needed to find my way back to LOVE. Back to ONENESS back to having COMPASSION FOR SELF, COMPASSION FOR OTHERS.
We are collectively, and on a planetary level, evolving. But sometimes it feels like we are going backwards. Sometimes we ARE going backwards.
Lifting and raising OUR individual frequency so that WE can hold space for others is so important. This is the work I came here to do!
Since I love to keep it real I’ll be totally honest. This week I forgot. I spiraled. I allowed my emotions to get the best of me, causing a dysregulation in my nervous system. After a week of high anxiety, I remembered I know how to ground my energy. This, as a therapist, is an integral part of my practice.
This will look different for everyone: For me I simply remembered what I had forgotten as we often do in times of disparity:
Here’s an easy to follow check-in and cheat sheet in case you are feeling yourself becoming dysregulated.
FINDING ZEN IN THE CHAOS OF EVERYDAY LIFE
How to breath correctly. Deep inhales and deeper exhales.
Check your ergonomics. Unclench your jaw. Soften your shoulders. Elongated your spine.
Grounded your energy by escaping into nature
Use airplane mode on your phone
Delete social media apps from your phone
Do not immediately respond to text messages or emails (ahhhh!). If the energetic space you are in is not good, it will come across in your responses to loved ones and colleagues which might take things personally. Be conscious not to attach the negative energy to anyone via our modern modes of communication
Get SWEATY. High intensity “beast mode” workout” to move that energy through you, out of you.
Try restorative yoga
Dance and music. Our favorite Spotify playlist to get out of the funk. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1EVHGWrwldPRtj?si=EYULid78QP-dAeA5BGJHPQ
Don’t make plans. Or confirm them with anyone except for yourself. Sometimes overwhelm is causing dysregulation so begin by taking things off of your plate, not adding more on.
If your cup is not full, you cannot offer the best you for others.
Sit with the emotions. Acknowledged them. Don’t push them away.
I do not numb out. (Sometimes this looks like a substance or drink, binge watching netflix, mindless social media scrolling. Replace these with healthier options, drinking water, workout, walk and podcast.
Pass on your morning coffee (anxiety accelerator). Instead try a Decaf or tea.
Cry. Sometimes you just need to purge those stuck emotions
Tell your partner that you are not well and are working through something energetically. Ask kindly if they can honor the space you’re In.
Communicate your irritability. Share your process.
Express that your frustration has nothing to do with the relationship in order to maintain a strong connection.
Remember It’s easy for a partner, family member, or friend to take things personally when you’re feeling triggered by outside circumstances. Oftentimes pent up feelings can be taken out on the wrong person. If you are feeling irritable, you become more easily agitated, which can affect the relationship with loved ones.
Laughter is the best medicine. Always. Find your tribe and bring them in. Be silly and let loose.
Once you are feeling back to your calm energetic space, share the love. Continue to send strangers who might not have this handy list love and light. As you drive past their cars, as you wait in line at the grocery store. At the gym. Just send out love and light as if you had a magic wand.
Meal prep so you’re not tempted to eat comfort food.
Nourish your body and mind with healthy food
Step outside of yourself. Accepted ALL perspectives. Understood we are ALL seeing the world through different lenses. Especially send love and light to those who have different perspectives than yours.
Shifted the perspective to UNITY. To looking at EVERYONE as brothers and sisters.
Purified the STAGNANT SHITTY ENERGY with your favorite candle (mine are from anthropology).
Detox with an epsom salt bubble bath.
Go outdoors and digitally detox, noting the beautiful nature all around.
Take your shoes off to ground into earth. (Beach walks)
Start and end the day with a meditation or inspiring youtube mindset. (Lewis Howes, Esther Hicks, Les Brown, Earl Nightingale).
No social media beginning or end of day. Take advantage of the theta wave lengths and their effects on the subconscious mind.
Love Insight timer guided meditations.
Create an energy cocoon around you and your space. Allowing a barrier for those to not enter who aren’t high vibe. (I can share more on this one if anyone is interested.
and I have to say it just one more time. Continue to remember those full belly breaths. Checking in every 15 minutes with the in-breath mantra “I surrender” and the out-breath mantra “I release”.
Ultimately we can find our way back to the deepest Realization of what REALLY matters… We can get ourselves out of the loop in our minds and find our way back into our heartspace. I send you all so much love and light. I hope this helps anyone who is feeling agitated, activated, negatively charged up! We are always our best versions of ourselves, even when there’s work to do, when we are coming from a place of love and understanding and connection to self, connection to others. With love, light, and more love -Audrey Mischa
